When the Institute for Natural Medicine was founded, naturopathic physicians were licensed in only seven states. Now, twenty states and territories license naturopathic doctors.

Today, our efforts are focused on public education and connecting patients to legitimate licensed NDs in their region. Since its founding in 1993, the INM has served the natural medicine world in many ways. We have:

• Launched the Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges
• Supported ongoing public education efforts
• Played a key role in obtaining licensure for naturopathic physicians in California
• Funded graduating natural medicine students in studies that advance the profession (through the Dr. John Bastyr Sunshine Fund Clinical Investigator Research Fellowships)
• Providing community support for youth and families through our Naturally Well programs for healthy eating

Our long-term vision includes supporting extended clinical studies that compare natural medical care to mainstream medical treatments in specific populations with specific health conditions. We plan to widely broadcast the results of such studies to advance public education about the efficacy of natural medicine.
